Painted blue stairs in turn of the century Portland home

Northwest Thurman

This project was a collaboration with Emerick Architects of Portland. From top to bottom, this turn of the century Portland home needed to be re-worked and refreshed for a young family of four.  The challenge was to do that without losing the heritage qualities they so loved in their home.  The entire main and second floors were reconfigured.

Old trim was stripped down and refinished, and new paneling and detailing was designed to match throughout the main floor. An old vintage orange work table was repurposed as the kitchen island, with industrial wheels added. Hand painted Portuguese tiles appear in the kitchen and the fireplace. Open shelving and a glass front pantry keep the kitchen casual and functional. The furnishings are a playful mix of vintage and modern, with careful attention paid to select furnishings to be comfortable, warm and inviting.
